Every quarter of the year, IDC will release a summarized smartphone shipments data for the Chinese market which gives us a good overview of how each of the big players are performing thus far.
According to their latest data for Q2 2019, Huawei unsurprisingly top the chart in terms of shipment volume. In Q2 2019 alone, Huawei has shipped a total of 36.3 million smartphones. This figure includes smartphones from Huawei as well as it’s Honor sub-brand. Majority of it’s success was attributed to the popularity of the P30 series, Nova 5 series and the Honor 20 lineup. This allows Huawei to secure a staggering 37.0% market share in China.
As compared to the same period last year, we saw a 7.8 million net increase in smartphone shipment this year. This equates to a 27% net increase, which is the highest among other smartphone makers in Q2 2019.
Sitting in the second place is Vivo, followed by OPPO, Xiaomi and Apple. These smartphone makers all suffer a dip in their shipment numbers when compared to the same period during the previous year. Among all, Xiaomi experienced the greatest drop in shipment number by as much as 19.3%.
It is therefore an indisputable fact that Huawei is the sole winner in Q2 2019 smartphone shipments in the Chinese market. The booming smartphone sales within it’s local market will be effective in cushioning against it’s flagging shipments in most of its key overseas market in Europe, Middle East and South East Asia.
