Meizu X8 sales delayed – Meizu CEO explains why

Yesterday, news broke that the much awaited Meizu X8 will go on sale on October 15th and many who have pre-ordered this smartphone since September were excited. However, less than 24hours after the sales announcement, the company stated that this smartphone will commence sales on October 25th due to insufficient stocking. Now, Huang Zhang, Meizu’s CEO has explained what caused the stocking issues. It’s not really an explanation per say but he said that the stocking issue and subsequent sales delay is as a result of some issues related to the COF packaging process of the LCD screen customized by BOE. However, he assured Meizu fans that this issue can be solved gradually and the phone will eventually hit the market.

 

The Meizu X8 adopts the same COF ultra-narrow bezel technology as the iPhone XR. The left and right borders are only 1.7 mm, the forehead is 2.84 mm, the chin is only 4.8 mm, and the whole screen is 89.6%. It is equipped with a 6.2-inch 18.5:9 LCD screen with a resolution of 2220 × 1080. It boasts of an in-cell full-fit process, 1500:1 contrast ratio, 83% NTSC color gamut and more. This smartphone is equipped with a 6.2-inch notch display. It is powered by a Snapdragon 710 SoC coupled with 4GB/6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of internal storage. We have a solid 20MP camera for selfies and it has Andriod Oreo for its operations. Its lights are kept on by a 3210 mAh battery.

In terms of price, the 4GB+64GB version is priced at 1598 yuan ($231), the 6GB+64GB version is priced at 1798 yuan ($260), while the 6GB+128GB version is priced at 1998 yuan ($289). It is will be available in three colours – bright black, jade white and magic blue. However, the Meizu 16th, Meizu 16th Plus, Meizu 16X, Meizu 15 kiln white will be on sale at 10 am on October 15th.
