Samsung Galaxy Note 9 May Feature Clear ID In-Display Fingerprint Scanner

Synaptics has officially announced the Clear ID technology as the world’s first in-display fingerprint scanner. The company will be showcasing its new technology at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018. Previous reports have revealed that Samsung may launch the Galaxy Note 9 as its first smartphone with in-display fingerprint scanner. Hence, it is likely to feature Synaptics’ Clear ID fingerprint scanner.

According to Synaptics, Clear ID can instantly unlock the smartphone like traditional fingerprint scanners. Since it is placed under the display, it is protected from scratches and water contact. Users will be able to use it with wet and cold fingers. It is also integrated with some security features like anti-spoofing, AES encryption, fingerprint template matching and authentication.

The press release that talks about the arrival of Synaptics’ Clear ID has some references like “infinity display” and “bezel-less OLED infinity display.” Moreover, the company has said that it is mass producing Clear ID by partnering with a “top five” smartphone making company. These things indicate that Synaptics could be working with Samsung on a forthcoming Galaxy flagship with in-screen fingerprint scanner.

It is difficult to confirm on the arrival of Clear ID feature on the upcoming Galaxy S9 and S9+ flagships. However, it appears that the Galaxy Note 9 may feature it.
