Samsung’s Foldable Smartphone Launching Next Year

During the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018, DJ Koh who is Samsung’s president for mobile business has confirmed that the company will be unveiling its first smartphone with foldable design in 2019. He has also confirmed that the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ flagship phones will be unveiling during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 tech exhibition event that is scheduled to take place at Barcelona, Spain in the coming month.

Last year, DJ Koh had said in an interview that if the company is able to fix the technical problems that they are facing with the first foldable phone, it will launch it in 2018. However, at ongoing the CES 2018, he said that UX is the major problem with its first foldable smartphone. Hence, the company is planning to launch it in 2019. This contradicts a recent report that claimed that Samsung may launch its first smartphone with foldable design in December 2018.

There is no information available tech specs of the smartphone, but the rumor mill has revealed that it will be coming with a fold-in design that can be opened to use it like a tablet. It is speculated that it includes a 7.3-inch foldable OLED panel. Rumors have it that it will be arriving as a limited edition device that will be available only in select markets.
