Huawei Promises To Double Its Sales In The US

China’s manufacturing giant, Huawei, said that despite its recent setbacks in improving its US sales, it will continue to invest in the US market. Xu Qinsong, vice president of Huawei’s consumer business, is confident that the Chinese phone maker will double its sales in the US this year relative to last year.

Earlier this year, Huawei and AT&T were on the verge of signing a mega contract which would have seen the US carrier selling about 90% of Huawei’s smartphones in the United States. However, this deal was blocked by the US government who claimed that Chinese companies like Huawei and ZTE have close ties with the Chinese government and such deals may threaten national security. However, Huawei is still confident that its products will make waves in the US. Xu Qinsong said in an interview in Shenzhen

“I DON’T KNOW WHY THEY (THE U.S. GOVERNMENT) ARE SO NERVOUS. THEY ARE REALLY TOO NERVOUS.”

Presently, Huawei’s presence in the US is via a couple of electronic retail stores and online channels, but it has not yet cooperated with operators which definitely affects its business. President of Huawei’s terminal handset product line, He Gang, said that the company will focus on emerging markets in Europe and Asia, such as India. Recall that earlier this year, Huawei’s president, Ren Zhengfei, said that the company will concentrate on low-end and mid-range smartphones in 2018.
Huawei is on the brink of 5G communication technology breakthrough and this has made the company a target for the United States. Many US officials are concerned that Chinese companies such as Huawei may play a greater or even dominant role in setting 5G technologies, standards, and practices. This forced US president, Donald Trump, to halt the hostile take-over bid of Qualcomm by a Singaporean company, Broadcom.
