LG Velvet goes official; but its pretty pricey

As scheduled, LG has finally announced the feverishly-anticipated LG Velvet which will be catering to the upper mid-ranger smartphone segment. While the LG Velvet definitely looks gorgeous on the outside, its a pity that the device doesn’t pack all the high-end hardware which most of us would be hoping to see.

Surely, one of the key highlights of the LG Velvet will be the device’s dual-curved front and back panel which LG describes as a flowing form factor which is “both pleasing to the eye and pleasing to touch”.

Its front display is a 6.8-inches Cinema FullVision OLED display which offers an impressive FHD+ screen resolution and 20.5:9 tall aspect ratio. The device also employs a dewdrop-notch design to accommodate its 16 megapixels selfie camera at the front.

Over at the back, the LG Velvet features a unique “raindrop” design for its triple-camera array which is unlike any of the camera arrangements we’d seen among other smartphones. These cameras include a 48 megapixels main camera, 8 megapixels ultra-wide lens, as well as a 5 megapixels depth sensor.

In terms of internals, the LG Velvet will be driven by an octa-core Snapdragon 765G SoC even though many have wished for it to be the flagship Snapdragon 865 instead. Nonetheless, this chip is still able to bring 5G connectivity to the device. This will be paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB onboard storage which is further expandable via a microSD card.

To keep its lights on, there is a respectable 4,300mAh battery which is capable of supporting 30W fast-charging and 10W wireless charging. For those who’re interested, the LG Velvet will be offered in four different color variants including Aurora White, Aurora Gray, Aurora Green, and Illusion Sunset.

Pricing-wise, the device will be priced at 899,800 Won (US$734) in South Korea.
