Despite the endless trade restrictions targeted on Huawei for the past one year, the Chinese telecommunication giant has remained implacable in their advance to become the world’s largest smartphone maker.

Although, the removable of Google apps and services from Huawei’s smartphones is a huge blow for Huawei, but that certainly isn’t enough to stop Huawei from finally becoming the top smartphone maker for Q2, 2020 – according to the latest report published by Canalys.
To put it in numbers, Huawei had shipped a total 55.8 million smartphones during the second quarter of the year, which equates to a 5% year-on-year slide in shipment number. In comparison, second-place Samsung had recorded a 30% year-on-year decline in shipment number after shipping just 53.7 million smartphones in Q2, 2020.
According to Canalys, more than 70% of Huawei’s smartphone shipments in Q2, 2020 come from the Chinese market where the company continues to dominate and enjoy a growing market share.
For the third quarter of the year, it will be interesting to see whether Huawei will be able to maintain its lead, taking into consideration the imminent launch of Samsung’s Galaxy Note20 flagship series at the beginning of August.
