Honor Magic3 series debuts with Snapdragon 888+ & cutting-edge camera system

The month of August has been been a blast so far! This week alone, we’d already witnessed the launch of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 as well as Samsung next-generation’s foldables – but that doesn’t stop there!

Today, it’s Honor’s turn to showcase the company’s brand new Honor Magic3 series flagship phones that will be taking the premium smartphone market by storm, with it’s superior hardware and cutting-edge camera technologies.

As what we’d expected, Honor has unveiled a trio of models from the new Honor Magic3 series lineup – Honor Magic3, Magic3 Pro, Magic3 Pro+ – which are all powered by either a Snapdragon 888 or Snapdragon 888+ mobile platform. Before we get into more details pertaining to the Magic3 Pro+ (in a separate article), let’s check out the new Honor Magic3 and Magic3 Pro.

The Honor Magic3 and Magic3 Pro share largely the same design and specs, apart from some minor differences. Upfront, they flaunts a dual-curved 6.76” OLED panel which offers a FHD+ screen resolution, 120Hz refresh rate. as well as 10-bit color depth.

For snapping selfies, both devices brings along an identical 13 megapixels main camera and 3D ToF depth sensor housed within the pill-shape cutout on the upper-left corner of the screen.

Flipping the phone, we’ll be greeted by a circular camera island which kind of reminds us of last year’s Huawei Mate 40 Pro (Review). Both the Honor Magic3 and Magic3 Pro boasts the same 50MP Sony IMX766 main camera, 64MP monochrome lens, as well as a 13MP ultra-wide lens.

The Honor Magic3 Pro however, gets an additional 64 megapixels telephoto lens that’s capable of achieving 3.5 optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom which put it on par with other zoom champion in the market like the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra (Review).

The key highlight of the camera system actually comes from the videography side, whereby it features a dedicated IMAX enhancements which allow recording in LOG format, as well as bring support for cinematic level 3D LUT for color adjustment and editing.

At the helm, the Honor Magic 3 is powered by a Snapdragon 888 chipset, while the higher-end Magic3 Pro receives a buffed up Snapdragon 888+ chipset. These are all high-end silicon that promises blazing-fast performance on the smartphones. In the memory department, the duo will be supplemented by up to 12GB RAM and 512GB onboard storage.

To keep it’s lights on, the Magic3 series smartphones draw power from a respectable 4,600mAh battery which carries support for 66W wired charging. While the ”Pro” model does come with 50W wireless charging, the vanilla model gave a miss to this feature. Software-wise, both are shipped with the new Magic UI 5 based on Android 11 with GMS aboard too!

In the European market, the Honor Magic3 is available in both Golden Hour and Blue Hour colorways, and is priced at €899. The Honor Magic3 Pro on the other hand, is offered in Golden Hour, Black, and White, and is priced at €1,099.
