After months of anticipations, Google has finally announced the long-awaited Google Pixel 6 series smartphones in Singapore which makes it the only few countries in the Asian market to sell these highly-anticipated devices.
As some of you may already know, the new Pixel 6 series smartphones are the pioneer batch to debut with the company’s in-house Tensor chipset, and also bring along significant upgrades in every other aspects of the smartphones. Without further ado, let’s check out what the new devices have in store for us!
Start off with the phones’ design, the new Pixel 6 series adopt a brand new design language which is a huge departure from past years’ models. The back of the phone features an unique three-tone design with a huge camera bar that run horizontally across it’s backplate.
Upfront, both the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro arrive with a central hole-punch display to accommodate it’s selfie camera. Although the Pixel 6 Pro has a curved display, the vanilla Pixel 6 settled with a flat one instead.
The front display on the higher-end Google Pixel 6 Pro is a 6.7” LTPO AMOLED display that offers a sharp 1440p screen resolution as well as a super smooth 120Hz adaptive refresh rate.
The refresh rate is adaptive in the sense that display intelligently switches between 10Hz to 120Hz according to the onscreen contents. This way, battery life will be significantly conserved since a high refresh rate will be utilized only when necessary.
The Pixel 6 on the other hand, gets a slightly smaller 6.5” AMOLED display with a toned-down 1080p resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. Both devices will be equipped with Gorilla Glass Victus upfront, and also feature an accurate and responsive in-display fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication.
On the imaging front, the Google Pixel 6 Pro features a versatile triple-cam system at the back comprising of a 50 megapixels Samsung GN1 main camera, 12 megapixels ultra-wide unit, as well as a 48 megapixels periscope telephoto lens which offers 4x optical zoom.
The vanilla Pixel 6 on the other side, shares the same 50 megapixels Samsung GN1 main camera and 12 megapixels ultra-wide lens. However, it lacks the 48 megapixels periscope telephoto lens that’s found in the Pixel 6 Pro. As for selfie, the Pixel 6 Pro sports a 11.1 megapixels ultra-wide camera, while the Pixel 6 settled with an 8 megapixels wide camera.
Apart from the updated camera hardware, the Pixel 6 series smartphones also come with new photography features such as the super useful Magic Eraser which allows users to easily remove photobombers and distractions from photos, as well as Face Unblur that helps to clearly capture faces even in the toughest conditions.
Under the hood, the Google Pixel 6 series smartphones are powered by the company’s custom Tensor chipset which is claimed to offer 80% better CPU performance and up to 370% better GPU performance than last year’s Pixel 5 series smartphones. On top of that, the new Tensor chipset also features a built-in Titan M2 security chip for an additional layer of security as well.
To keep their lights on, the Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 6 devices are equipped with a 5,000mAh and 4,600mAh batteries respectively, Both devices supports 30W fast wired charging, as well as 23W and 21W wireless charging respectively.
On the software side of things, the Google Pixel 6 series will arrive with the latest Android 12 OS out of the box. According to Google, the Pixel 6 series phones are entitled to 5 years worth of security updates too.
For those who’re interested, the Google Pixel 6 is available in both Stormy Black and Sorta Seafoam colorways in the local market. The phone is launched in a single 12GB+128GB configuration which is priced at just $999.
As for the Google Pixel 6 Pro, the phone will be offered in both Stormy Black and Cloudy White color options. Just like the vanilla model, the Pixel 6 Pro is also available in a single 12GB+128GB configuration which will set you back by $1,299.
