Several manufacturers are preparing to release flagship phones with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in China. Phone makers like Xiaomi, OnePlus, iQOO, Vivo, and Honour are thought to be releasing SD8G2-powered phones before the end of this year. It appears that Motorola too will join the bandwagon. The reason behind it is that the Moto X40, which is expected to feature the SD8G2 chip, has been officially teased by Chen Jin, Lenovo Group General Manager of Lenovo China Mobile Phone Business Department.

In the screenshot shown below, Jin can be seen asking Motorola fans about their expectations of the Moto X40. The Weibo post confirms the name of the device and gives hints that it will be coming out soon.

Recently, a Motorola phone with model number XT2301-5 was approved by the 3C authority of China. The 5G-ready device was spotted with a 68W charger. The Moto Edge X30 that debuted last year also offered 68W charging. Hence, it appears that the XT2301-5 is the successor to the Edge X30. Since Motorola has stopped using “Edge” branding for its smartphones in the Chinese market, it appears that the device will break cover as the Moto X40.

Digital Chat Station recently teased the key specifications of the Moto X40. He claimed that the device is equipped with an FHD+ display, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, and a 50-megapixel main camera. He also hinted that the device would be aggressively priced in the Chinese market. It remains to be seen whether it debuts as the most affordable SD8G2 phone in China.

The leaked specs by DCS are in line with leaked information that Evan Blass shared a few months ago. In the global market, the device will be rebranded as the Motorola Edge 40 Pro. It will offer specs such as a 165Hz OLED FHD+ display, an SD8G2 chip, and 8 GB / 12 GB of RAM. For photography, it will have a 60-megapixel front-facing camera and a 50-megapixel (main) + 50-megapixel (ultra-wide + macro) + 12-megapixel (telephoto) triple camera system.
