Huawei Pocket 3 seemingly confirmed to launch in March

Huawei’s top executive, Richard Yu, has hinted at an upcoming device that is expected to defy expectations. In a video statement, Yu confirmed that this product, set to debut in March, will introduce a new form factor and be the first smartphone to feature the native HarmonyOS system.

The upcoming Huawei device is described as a breakthrough in hardware, software, and ecosystem integration. Yu emphasised that major technology firms, including Tencent, Alibaba, ByteDance, and Meituan, are actively refining applications to enhance the HarmonyOS experience. While details remain scarce, recent leaks suggest that the new product could be the Huawei Pocket 3, a foldable smartphone that differs significantly from its predecessors.

According to reports, this Huawei Pocket 3 will introduce a unique 3:2 aspect ratio for its internal display, deviating from the traditional 20:9 format commonly found in compact foldable smartphones. The main screen is expected to measure 6.3 inches, while the outer display will be 3.5 inches. This design, reminiscent of a smaller iPad mini when unfolded, could redefine the foldable phone category.

Yu previously teased that this device would be “affordable for everyone,” suggesting Huawei aims for a broad consumer base rather than a niche flagship audience. Beyond its innovative form factor, the Pocket 3 is anticipated to include cutting-edge features like dual-direction BeiDou satellite messaging, a periscope telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and Huawei’s XMAGE imaging technology.

Reports also indicate that the Huawei Pocket 3 will be powered by a new Kirin chipset with 5G connectivity, further strengthening Huawei’s position in the market. There’s no clarity about whether Huawei will announce any other device alongside the Pocket 3.
