Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Wide design revealed via CAD renders well before launch

Rumors suggest that apart from the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8, Samsung may unveil a new foldable phone in July. This will not be the successor to last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. Instead, it will be a completely new foldable phone with a wider form factor. When unfolded, it will resemble a tablet in horizontal orientation. Well before the launch, AndroidHeadlines and popular tipster OnLeaks have shared CAD renders of the tentatively named Galaxy Z Fold Wide device, showcasing its design for the first time.

In terms of dimensions, the device is said to measure around 123.9 x 161.4 x 4.9mm when unfolded and 123.9 x 82.2 x 9.8mm when folded. The camera bump increases thickness further, reaching up to 14.6mm. The renders also suggest a redesigned rear camera layout with a dual-camera setup instead of the triple sensors typically found on premium foldables.

The wider aspect ratio could make multitasking more comfortable and improve app scaling, especially for media consumption and productivity tasks. However, the reduced camera hardware may be one of the trade-offs with this design shift.

As per other reports, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 may feature a 7.6-inch inner display along with a 5.4-inch cover screen. It is likely to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and storage options going up to 1TB. A 5,000mAh battery with 45W wired charging support is also expected.

As mentioned above, the South Korean tech giant is likely to unveil this new foldable alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8 at its next Unpacked event in July. It is expected to rival the iPhone Fold, which is expected to debut with a similar design in September this year.
