Last month, Huawei released a tentative schedule on when various Huawei and Honor smartphones will receive their EMUI 9.1 update.
As per schedule, Huawei has officially confirmed that the EMUI 9.1 is now be available to 8 more Huawei and Honor smartphones including the Huawei Mate 9, Mate 9 Pro, Mate 9 Porsche Design, P10, P10 Plus, Nova 2s, Honor 9, as well as Honor V9.
Apparently, some of the device mentioned above including the Mate 9 series have already begun receiving the update earlier this month in some countries. As always, OTA updates are rolled out in several batches even for the same device, so it’s perfectly normal for some countries to receive earlier than another.
Once the update is available to your device, there will be an update notification prompting you to perform the update. Otherwise, you can either head down to Settings> System> System update to manually check for the update or open the HiCare app > Tap on the Update button.
What to expect from the EMUI 9.1?
One of the main feature of course, will be none other than the revamped, minimalist user interface which brings about greater usability for its users. According to Huawei, the EMUI 9.1 features new wallpapers to reflect in-the-moment beauty and the app icons have been redesigned to be more realistic.
Next, the new update will also bring the renowned GPU Turbo 3.0 software feature which aims to provide a smooth and speedy gaming experience with improved battery performance. Currently, more than 20 game titles have been supported by the GPU Turbo 3.0 including PUBG Mobile and Fortnite to name a few.
In EMUI 9.1, it will introduce a new EROFS file system which could greatly improves the read and write performance of the flash memory by approximately 20%. That’s not all, the EROFS file system is also able to improve file compressionwhich could ultimately help you to save up to 2GB worth of storage space.
Another innovative feature in EMUI 9.1 is the Huawei Vlog feature which comes with many practical tools for you to easily edit and share in just one-click. Furthermore, the new EMUI 9.1 will also support video ringtone for specific contacts selected by the users. This feature could be enabled by going to Settings > Ringtones & vibration > Ringtone > Video ringtones.
