After a long wait, Google has finally announced the much anticipated Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G which are among the first in the world to be shipped with the latest Android 11 out of the box. What’s notable is that the pair is also the first two Google smartphones to come with support for 5G connectivity.
Google Pixel 5
Starting with the higher-end model, the Google Pixel 5 is built around a 6-inches OLED display with FHD+ screen resolution and a smooth 90Hz refresh rate. Although will maintain the same hole-punch design as last year’s Google Pixel 4, but its overall display size is slightly larger than the Pixel 4.
On the flip side, we will continue to be greeted by a familiar-looking squarish camera module which is home to a dual camera setup. These cameras include a 12.2 megapixels (f/1.7 aperture) primary shooter with OIS stabilization as well as a 16 megapixels (f/2.2 aperture) ultra-wide lens.
This time round, Google has actually swapped the telephoto lens on the Pixel 4 in favor of an ultra-wide lens for the Pixel 5. As such, the Google Pixel 5 will rely heavily on AI algorithm for zooming using its primary shooter. Its camera department will be rounded up an 8 megapixels selfie camera at the front.
Under the hood, the device is powered by a 5G-ready Snapdragon 765G chipset alongside 8GB of RAM and 128GB onboard storage. It will draw power from a respectable 4,080mAh battery with 18W fast-charging, alongside wireless and reverse charging support. On top of that, its also worth noting that the device is IP68-certified for dust and water resistance.
For those who’re interested, the Google Pixel 5 will be offered in two different colorways including Sorta Sage and Just Black. It will be priced at $700/ €630/ £599 for its standard 8GB+128GB model depending on the region you’re residing in.
Google Pixel 4a 5G
Coming to the Pixel 4a 5G, the device arrives with a slightly larger 6.2-inches OLED display at the front. Although it features the same FHD+ screen resolution, but its refresh rate has been toned down to a standard 60Hz refresh rate.
At the back, the Pixel 4a 5G flaunts the same camera configuration as the Pixel 5 which include a 12.2 megapixels primary shooter and a 16 megapixels ultra-wide lens. Their similarities also extend to the same 8 megapixels selfie camera.
Unlike the Pixel 4a 4G which is powered by a Snapdragon 730G SoC, the Pixel 4a 5G is equipped with the higher-end Snapdragon 765G SoC. It will be paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage in the memory department.
To keep its light on, the Pixel 4a 5G is fitted with a 3,885mAh batter with 18W fast-charging support. Sadly speaking, it will not be coming with wireless or reverse charging support. However, it do have a 3.5mm headphone jack which the Pixel 5 lacks of.
Last but not the least, the Pixel 4a 5G will be offered only in a Just Black color option. It will be priced at $500/ €500/ £500 based on the region you’re residing in.
