The month of July was a special month for Honor Singapore as the company officially marked the first anniversary of its re-entrance to the local market after nearly three years of hiatus. To celebrate this special occasion, Honor recently unveiled the new Honor 200 series devices which reiterate the company’s unwavering commitment to innovation and unlocking new possibilities in smartphone photography,
Thanks to Honor Singapore, I actually had the opportunity to test out the higher-end Honor 200 Pro for almost a month – using it not only as a daily driver, but also as my mobile photography companion. Despite that short span of time, the phone had impressed me enough to deem it as one of the best mid-ranger I’ve tested so far and here’s why.
Honor 200 Pro: Design
Design has always been Honor’s strong suit and this was proven once again with the new Honor 200 Pro which flaunts an exhilarating rear design populated by an artsy camera housing inspired by renowned Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. The model I had for review comes in a gorgeous Ocean Cyan colorway which has wavy patterns that mimics a meandering coastline.
What I really love about the Honor 200 Pro’s design is actually how sleek and premium the phone feels on hand. It measures just 8.2mm in thickness which makes it easy to hold and use single-handedly. Also, the frosted glass finish at the back is pretty much immune to any fingerprints and smudges which is great for someone like me with sweaty palm. While there’s no mention on the type of glass (such as whether its Gorilla Glass), the phone certainly feels like its capable to survive a couple of knocks.

Flipping the phone over will reveal a spacious 6.78” curved display which offers plenty of screen estate for work and play. The display itself is based on a high-end OLED panel that’s capable of delivering sharp and vibrant graphics which is sure to elevate your entertainment experience.
The most impressive part however, lies in its exceptional peak brightness which maxes out at 4,000 nits in HDR mode. This is an important but often overlooked feature which not only keeps the screen legible, but also ensures everything on the screen looks as good as expected.
And like any other Honor smartphones, eye comfort remains a top priority for the Honor 200 Pro which also comes with a series of advanced eye protection features such as an industry-leading 3,840Hz PWM dimming, Dynamic dimming, AI Circadian Night Display as well as hardware-level low blue light emission.
Honor 200 Pro: Performance
Under the hood, the Honor 200 Pro is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset which holds up remarkably well in day-to-day usage, delivering a lag-free mobile experience even with heavy multi-tasking or long hours of gaming.
Speaking of gaming, you’ll be glad to know that the Honor 200 Pro also features a reliable All-range Cooling System 2.0 comprising of a super-large stainless steel biomimetic VC and a wide heat dissipation area for improved thermal conductivity. This greatly improve the stability of gameplay which naturally leads to a more enjoyable gaming experience.
Memory-wise, the Honor 200 Pro comes with a healthy 12GB RAM which allows you to run dozens of apps in the background without clashing. And for those who really need extra RAM, the phone also supports Honor’s proprietary RAM Turbo technology that allows you to convert 12GB of flash memory into an additional 12GB RAM for all your multi-tasking needs.
On a normal work day, the Honor 200 Pro’s 5,200mAh battery consistently provide me with around 1.5 days worth of usage on a single charge. This includes around 7 hours of screen time with 2 hours of gaming in between when commuting.
In the event that the battery runs out, the phone supports an ultra-fast 100W Honor SuperCharge technology that recharges a completely flat batter from 0 to 100% in merely 45 minutes using the included charging brick. Wireless charging is available too, but it charges at a slightly slower 66W charging speed which achieve a full charge at slightly over an hour.
Honor 200 Pro: Cameras
Now, onto the most exciting aspect – its triple rear camera system that combines hardware and software excellence to deliver user a flagship-equivalent mobile photography experience. These cameras consist of a 50 megapixels (f/1.9 aperture) main camera, a 50 megapixels (f/2.4 aperture) telephoto camera as well as a 12 megapixels (f/2.2 aperture) ultra-wide camera.
Regardless of lighting condition, the main camera never fails to capture superb looking photos that rival most of the smartphones that double its price. The photos not only looks sharp and vibrant, but also lean close to what we sees with our own eyes rather than some overly processed bunch that look akin to oil paintings.
Besides its ability to capture share-worthy regular shots, the Honor 200 Pro also holds a significant advantage over competing devices when it comes to zooming thanks to its presence of a capable 50MP telephoto camera which allows the phone to capture crystal-clear photos at 2.5x optical zoom – a feature that’s normally present only on a high-end flagship device.

In case you need more zooming power, the telephoto camera also work in tandem with the rest of the camera hardware to achieve up to 50x digital zoom that yields acceptably good results even at the highest zoom level. In fact, I can safely say that the Honor 200 Pro has one of the best, if not the best, zoom system in this price range (check out our video above to see it in full action!).
Verdict
Honor might be a relatively young brand in Singapore, but the past one year has showed that the company is well capable of launching some of the most exciting and promising smartphones in the market. This of course include the new Honor 200 Pro which not only comes with an enticing launch price of just S$799, but also offers users a premium smartphone experience with everything you need under the hood: Great display, snappy performance as well as a set of capable cameras for all your photography need. Its definitely an easy phone to recommend to anyone who’s looking for a reliable smartphone that cost under a thousand bucks.
