Honor Magic V3: A Bite Size Review

The Honor Magic V2 which I reviewed at the beginning of the year is easily one of my favourite foldable smartphone that shines in many aspects despite being one of the most affordable folding phone in the local market. As such, I was incredibly excited to try out its successor, the Honor Magic V3 which was recently announced in Singapore.

On the outside, the Honor Magic V3 is easily distinguishable from the Magic V2 thanks to a complete design overhaul. Among the many changes include a new domed-shape octagonal camera module which not only gives the phone a distinct outlook, but also makes a strong statement about the impressive camera capability of the phone.

Featuring a ground-breaking thickness of just 9.2mm when folded, the Honor Magic V3 makes its name as the thinnest inward folding phone in the market which promises utmost portability for users. Coupled with a featherlight weight of 226 grams, the Magic V3 is a joy to hold and use regardless whether you’re using the phone in folded or unfurled state.

When unfolded, the Honor Magic V3 features a whopping 7.92” inner display which offers wider viewing area than most other foldable phones – making it ideal for entertainment and productivity. The cover display on the other hand is a 6.3” screen which allows you to use the device like a regular smartphone during normal time.

Speaking of the display, they are based on high-end LTPO AMOLED panel which looks crisp and vibrant even in outdoor environment with strong ambient light. Other than that, there’s also Dolby Vision support as well as a slick 120Hz refresh rate that deliver smooth and realistic visuals for a more immersive entertainment experience.

Like any other flagship devices in the market, the Honor Magic V3 is powered by a state-of-the-art Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset which certainly has more than enough oomph for all your daily productivity and entertainment needs. To sweeten up the deal, there’s also a generous 12GB RAM to ensure a lag-free multi-tasking experience when working across multiple apps.

As far as battery life is concerned, the Honor Magic V3’s 5,150mAh battery can easily supports one full day of usage with some extra juice to spare at the end of the day. That’s pretty impressive considering that I’m actually using the inner display more than half the time. In the event that the battery runs out, the phone can also be recharged rapidly in just 45 minutes using the bundled 66W-rated charger.

Now, on to the most exciting aspect of the Honor Magic V3: it’s pro-grade Falcon Camera System lead by a 50MP main camera, 50MP periscope telephoto camera as well as a 50 megapixels ultra-wide unit. Its main camera featuring a large 1/1.56-inch sensor size is nothing short of impressive, capturing photos with excellent details and convincing colours across different lighting condition. The same can be said for its periscope telephoto camera which is among the best zoom lens I’ve seen on a foldable. It supports 3.5x optical zoom for capturing mesmerizing portraits, and up to 100x digital zoom in case you need to photograph faraway subjects.

While photos taken at the maximum zoom level are probably not suitable for social media, you’ll be surprised that the photos actually look clear and detailed enough for personal consumption (check out the video above to see the impressive zoom system in action).

To sum up, the Honor Magic V3 is a fantastic foldable smartphone that’s totally worth your consideration. Its currently one of the most affordable foldable smartphone you can get in the market at just S$1,999. Despite that, no compromise is made in any aspect of the smartphone which offers excellent performance along with a remarkable camera system for your photography needs.

If you’re interested, the Honor Magic V3 is available for purchase in Singapore through Honor Official Store on Shopee, Lazada and TikTok, as well as authorised dealers including Best Denki, Challenger, Courts, Gain City and Harvey Norman.
