Honor is expected to unveil two foldable phones in June in China. There will be a vertically foldable phone, possibly branded as the Honor Magic V2 Flip, and a book-style foldable phone. Previously, the rumour mill dubbed this device the Magic V4. However, a Chinese tech blogger claims that the company will skip the number “4” and instead call it the Honor Magic V5.
Honor Magic 5 moniker tipped
There have been several instances where Chinese brands have skipped using the number “4” in their device names, as it is considered a bad omen in some Asian countries. This could be the reason why Honor’s next-generation book-style foldable will be launched with the Magic V5 moniker.
This also raises doubts about the Honor 400 series of smartphones, which are expected to launch in May in China. It wouldn’t be surprising if the company skips the 400 branding and instead uses the 500 branding for the successor editions of last year’s Honor 300 series.
As mentioned above, several reports have claimed that the Honor Magic V5 will break cover in June. Now, a new leak suggests that it may debut in the third or fourth week of the month.
Honor has previously stated that its upcoming foldable phone will be thinner than its predecessor. It is speculated that the Magic V5 may measure around 8mm. Under the hood, the device is expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.
The device could be equipped with a 6.45-inch 120Hz LTPO OLED outer display and an 8-inch 2K 120Hz inner foldable screen. For security, it will feature a side-facing fingerprint sensor. It is expected to house a 50-megapixel main camera and a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera, both backed by large camera sensors. It will also come with additional features such as wireless charging, an IPX8 rating, and satellite connectivity.
