Last year, Huawei made headlines when the company launches the Huawei Mate X2 foldable smartphone which sadly didn’t make it to the global market as it’s availability was eventually limited to the Chinese market.
Now, the company is finally back to the limelight with the launch of the new Huawei Mate Xs 2 in the global market which will be succeeding the 2020’s Mate Xs. While the new model features the same outward folding design, it’s given a minor facelift along with a significant bump in specs.
On the outside, the Huawei Mate Xs 2 greets us with a 6.5-inches OLED display (when folded) which offers an impressive 2,480 x 1,176 pixels screen resolution as well as a standard 60Hz refresh rate.
For better convenience, it also features a 10.7 megapixels camera on the upper-left corner of the screen in the form of a miniscule pinhole which can be used for taking selfies even without unfolding the device.
To allow a tablet-like experience on the Mate Xs 2, the device can be unfolded to reveal a spacious 7.8” OLED display with a pretty sharp 2480 x 2200 pixels resolution topped with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate.
Despite it’s hefty footprint measuring 156.5 x 75.5 x 11.1 mm (when folded), the Huawei Mate Xs 2 weighs only approximately 255 grams. Although the device is still admittedly heavier than mainstream devices, but it’s definitely among the lightest among foldables.
Moving on to the imaging side of things, the Huawei Mate Xs 2 also packs a capable triple-cam system lead by a 50 MP Sony IMX766 main camera along with an 13 megapixels ultra-wide snapper as well as an 8 megapixels telephoto camera which supports 3x optical zoom and up to 30x digital zoom.
Under the hood, the Huawei Mate Xs 2 is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 888 4G chipset just like the Huawei P50 Pro (Review). Other than that, it also features a respectable 4,600mAh battery with 66W fast-charging support.
The device, as usual, will be shipped with the company’s proprietary HarmonyOS 2 right off the box. It’s offered in a trio of colors at launch including white, black and violet. Coming to what matters most, the Huawei Mate Xs 2 is priced at 1,999 Euro (US$2,093) for it’s 8GB+512GB trim in the European market.
