Recent reports have revealed that Huawei is reportedly working on the Mate 80 series of flagship phones for China. A reliable tipster has hinted that a top annual flagship will introduce 3D face authentication across every model. Continue reading ahead to see what the leak revealed.
Huawei Mate 80 series: 3D face recognition planned for all models

According to the leak, the entire Mate 80 range is said to adopt a 3D face recognition feature. The components, including the module, transmitter and receiver, are reportedly sourced from leading domestic suppliers, indicating Huawei’s continued push for home-grown technology. This would mark a major shift since earlier generations only offered 3D face recognition on Pro variants within the Mate family.
The series is expected to include four models, namely Mate 80, Mate 80 Pro, Mate 80 Pro+ and Mate 80 RS. All versions are likely to ship with HarmonyOS 6 and the new Kirin 9030 chipset, which is said to deliver around 30 percent performance improvement. Launch is speculated for November.
Early prototype details suggest the Mate 80 series will retain Huawei’s signature centre-positioned circular rear camera layout with a bright metal accent ring. Leaks also claim a multi-sensor camera system with a 52-megapixel primary camera on the Pro model, accompanied by a 42-megapixel ultra-wide, a 50-megapixel telephoto with macro capability, and a multispectral sensor.
Charging differences are expected between variants. The standard version may support 66W wired charging, while the Pro models reportedly move to 100W. A straight 6.9-inch 120Hz OLED display is rumoured for the Pro version with a resolution of 2920 x 1342 pixels.
