Even though the Huawei Mate X had already been unveiled for a lengthy period of more than six months, but the device has not been officially launched in any markets.
However, things are about to change a little. Apparently, a Huawei customer support officer has been quoted on a Weibo post, claiming that the Mate X foldable smartphone is expected to be announced in China somewhere during October. This came as a response to a curious user who posted a query on when the Huawei foldable smartphone will be released.
If you still remember, the Huawei Mate X was previously scheduled for a June release date, but was subsequently pushed back due to reasons like a need to engage in continued app development to ensure that the large display is well utilize.
As a result of the delay, it also buys Huawei some time to upgrade the SoC of the Mate X from the previous Kirin 980 to the latest 5G Kirin 990 SoC. This is definitely an upgrade everyone would love to see and in our opinion, is worth the extra waiting time.
What we know about the Huawei Mate X so far..
The TENAA listing of the Huawei Mate X states that it measures 161.3 x 146.2 x 11mm and it weighs 287 grams. It will be arriving in China in colors like Star Blue and more. The foldable phone features an 8-inch OLED display that offers 2480 x 2200. TENAA listing of the phone has no details on the secondary AMOLED display that measures 6.6 inches and supports 2480 x 1148 pixels resolution. It has a minimum rated battery of 4,400mAh capacity.
The Kirin 980 chipset powers the Mate X. As per TENAA listing, it may come in models like 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage, 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage and 12 GB RAM + 512 GB storage. The EMUI 9 based Android 9 Pie OS runs on the device. For more storage, the Mate X supports up to 256 GB of nanoSD card.
The Mate X is equipped with quad camera setup on its rear that includes a 40-megapixel main lens, a 16-megapixel sensor, an 8-megapixel lens and a 3D ToF sensor. The Mate X has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. The 3C listing of the smartphone has already confirmed that the first foldable phone from the company will carry support for 55W fast charging.
