Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro Review: Great Price, Great Design, Great Features!

The Huawei Watch GT 3 was easily one of our favorite smartwatch last year and we have plenty of reasons why this is so; from it’s appealing design to it’s exceptional health and fitness tracking capability that give competitors a run for their money.

Six months down the road, Huawei is now back to the limelight with the launch of the high-end Watch GT 3 Pro that comes along with an improved build quality as well as several new features which aim to elevate the smartwatch experience for it’s users.

With an official launch price of just S$468, the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro is currently one of the most affordable high-end model in the market. However, does it really has everything you’re looking for in your next smartwatch? Let’s find out in our Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro review!

Probably The Best-looking Smartwatch Around

Huawei has always been known for launching some of the best-looking tech products which not only applies to it’s flagship phones like the Huawei P50 Pro (Review), but also gadgets and wearables like the new Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro.

There are many things to love about their design, but one thing which I really appreciate is the way they are designed such that you can hardly tell they’re a smartwatch from afar as they look so much like an actual watch, rather than a digital device thanks to their exemplary craftmanship.

The Titanium model that was launched in the local market features a Gray-colored watch case and a Black Fluoroelastomer strap which gives the smartwatch a sporty outlook that goes well with any fitness apparel or casual outfit. To add some intricacies to the overall design of the smartwatch, there’s also a chronograph-style ring surrounding the watch display which will come in handy for certain watch faces.

The watch case itself builds around a premium 46mm case body made from titanium that’s long-lasting and yet lightweight. Likewise, the touch display is also fitted with an additional layer of sapphire glass which not only protects the display against scratches, but also ensures it’s tough enough to take a couple of knocks (touch wood, of course!).

Speaking of durability, the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro also carries IP68 and 5 ATM ratings for water resistance which basically means the watch is able to survive rain or shower, as well as a submersion of up to 50 meters – making it a perfect companion for those who frequently engage in water activities.

On the underside, it switches to Nanocrystalline ceramic material which certainly felt more premium than those that are made of plastic material. In fact, the same could be said for it’s Fluoroelastomer strap which not only felt smooth and gentle on the skin, but does an excellent job in keeping the watch in place when doing strong movements during a heavy workout.

Putting the pieces together, you get a smartwatch that’s really comfortable to wear throughout the day. It’s light and secured, so you don’t actually felt it’s weight on your wrist.

Great Display, Awesome Software

The Huawei Watch GT3 Pro sports a gorgeous AMOLED display which offers a top-notch viewing experience with it’s ultra-sharp 466 x 466 pixels screen resolution and vibrant colors. Also, the display has no issue getting sufficiently bright to keep the screen legible even when you’re directly under bright sunlight.

That’s something important for those who does outdoor activities frequently like hiking and etc. Other than that it also features other high-end display specs including a reliable auto-brightness feature as well as support for always-on display with a good selection of AOD styles to pick from.

Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro Interface

Coming to the software-side, the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro is among the pioneer batch of of Huawei smartwatch to be launched with the company’s in-house HarmonyOS instead of LiteOS. For me, I really love the new Grid-style menu in HarmonyOS which not only makes interaction with the watch more lively, but is also more intuitive for user to look for any particular app especially with it’s default 3 x 3 layout.

To further improve interaction on the new HarmonyOS, the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro features a rotatable digital crown affixed to the right edge of the watch which can be used to zoom in and out of the grid, or to scroll through a list. Similarly, there’s also an oblong-shaped button situated slightly below it’s digital crown which by default, serves as a quick shortcut for list of workout modes. Otherwise, you can also map this button to other function or feature via the watch setting.

As usual, users can download a wide range of third-party apps from AppGallery on their Huawei/ Android smartphone and sync them over to the Watch GT 3 Pro. This include apps ranging from maps and radio services to mini games. Also, the smartwatch can be used to answer or reject incoming calls so long it remains connected to your phone via Bluetooth.

All The Features You Need To Keep Healthy!

Huawei’s smartwatches have never failed to impress when it comes to the features they offer under the hood. For health monitoring, the Huawei Watch GT3 Pro has all the most commonly used features that include stuffs like 24hr heart rate monitoring, around-the-clock SpO2 measurement, stress levels monitoring, sleep tracking, daily calories burnt, as well as steps tracking.

What’s different however, is the adoption of the new TruSeen 5.0+ sensor which doubles the count of photodiodes from four to eight, and the number of light source from one to two. This further improves the accuracy of important health metrics such as heart rate and SpO2 measurements which are crucial in today’s pandemic.

The readings from the measurements taken on the Huawei Watch GT3 Pro are pretty much in sync with those gotten on the Huawei Watch 3 Pro. However, the difference became more apparent when I compared them with the slightly more dated GT2 Pro.

Apart from the new TruSeen 5.0+ sensor, Huawei also brought in another handy feature dubbed as skin temperature measurement which does exactly what it’s name suggests: measuring the surface temperature of your skin which could potentially help to identify sign of fever or heat stroke whenever there’s an abrupt rise in temperature.

To support your workout routine, the Huawei Watch GT3 Pro is packed with a good selection of workout modes including all the standard ones like outdoor run, indoor run, outdoor walk, indoor walk, outdoor cycling, indoor cycling, pool swim, open water swim and hiking. On top of that, it also brought in several innovative workout modes such as Golf and Free-diving which we don’t typically see among smartwatches.

Also, I’m glad that outdoor tracking works like a charm on the Watch GT 3 Pro with the adoption of Dual-Band Five-System GNSS which supports GPS, Beidou, GLONASS, Galileo and QZSS satellite systems that greatly improve the strength and stability of outdoor positioning signals.

Those data recorded on the watch can be synced over to the Huawei Health App where it not only shows you the route covered, but also offers many other useful information like your heart rate reading as well as your pace during the entire run.

On top of that, it comes with a feature known as Route Back Navigation which can guide you back to the starting point if you happen to lose direction. Otherwise, you can also share the travel route with your family or friends.

Superb Battery Life

Another standout feature for Huawei’s smartwatches is none other than the outstanding battery life that these watches offer over their competitors. It therefore doesn’t came as a surprise that the new Watch GT3 Pro performs exceptionally well in this department too.

According to Huawei, the Huawei Watch GT3 Pro is able to offer up to two-week battery life under typical usage. Those numbers were proven to be pretty accurate during my own testing. However, under heavier usage condition, you may find the battery life drops to around 8 days or less.

In the event that the battery runs out, the Watch GT 3 Pro can be quickly recharged from 0 to 100% in merely 85 minutes using the bundled charger. Otherwise, a short 10 minutes will be good enough to provide you with around 3.5 days’ battery life under moderate usage.

Verdict

The Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro might not be the most expensive smartwatch around, but it’s certainly one of the best smartwatch in the market that offers a premium all-rounder experience for both casual and advance users.

At just $468, the Watch GT 3 Pro has pretty much everything we’re looking for in a smartwatch including a stellar design, good selection of workout modes, accurate health and fitness tracking, long-lasting battery life, as well as various smart features that simplify our every day’s life. It’s a testament that Huawei doesn’t only makes good phones, but awesome smartwatches too!

For those who’re interested the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro is available in Singapore for just S$468 at all authorised consumer electronic stores, Huawei Authorised Stores and official online stores in Lazada and Shopee.
