After announcing the Helio G80 SoC back in February this year, MediaTek is now back with a brand new Helio G85 gaming-centric SoC which has made its official debut today. As you can infer from its moniker, the latest chip will sit between the Helio G80 and Helio G90 SoCs.
Similar to the current Helio G80 SoC, the newly announced Helio G85 also boast the renowned HyperEngine Game Technology which comes with performance optimization features that helps deliver “smoother performance in heavy-loading game engines, demanding scenes and intense game play”.
The Helio G85 SoC is based on an octa-core architecture comprising of a pair of Cortex-A75 CPUs (clocked at 2GHz) and six Cortex-A55 CPUs (clocked at 1.8GHz). Here, you may realize that the Helio G85 actually has the same processing cores as the Helio G80.
Their similarity extends to the common Mali-G52 GPU under the hood. However, the GPU for the Helio G85 is clocked at 1GHz instead of just 950MHz which has been the case for the Helio G80 SoC. As usual, this chip will be able to support up to FHD+ screen resolution with 60Hz refresh rate.
In terms of memory, the Helio G80 chip will also be able to support up to 8GB of LPDDR4X memory (@1800MHz), as well as eMMC 5.1 storage. On the photography end, the ISP for the Helio G80 is able to support up to 48 megapixels for single-camera sensor, or 16MP+16MP for dual-camera sensors.
Besides that, other key highlights of the Helio G85 SoC include its support for AI Camera, Multi-Camera Smartphones with Premium Quality, Integrated Voice Wakeup (VoW), Highly Accurate Inertial Navigation, as well as Dual 4G SIM.
