Motorola is reportedly working on a new Razr phone that is likely to arrive in Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and 8 Gen 1+ chipset variants. The clamshell phone will continue to sport a foldable display.
While there is no word on whether the Lenovo-owned brand will be launching a foldable phone with a form factor like the Galaxy Z Flip3, it is rumored to be working on a smartphone with a rollable screen. Here is all the information that is known about Motorola’s rollable display phone.
According to the report, Motorola s working on a rollable display smartphone with a “Felix” codename. The report has no information on the specs of the device but does reveal vital details on its design.
OPPO announced the OPPO X 2021 concept phone in 2020. Last year, LG was reportedly working on the LG Rollable with a flexible display. The South Korean company was expected to announce the device in 2021, but the company made a sudden exit from the smartphone market. It now appears that Motorola could be in the race to launch the first smartphone with a rollable display.
The report claims that the design of the Motorola Felix will be different from the OPPO X 2021 and LG Rollable, which looked like regular smartphones that allowed users to expand their screens horizontally to use them in a table-like orientation. Felix’s rollable display can be expanded vertically. The report states that “a third of its display, when compact, (can be) wrapped around a spindle at the bottom and facing backwards.” This will allow the Motorola Felix to flaunt a smaller form factor.
Motorola is reportedly testing the device’s software on a modified version of the Edge 30 Pro. While it is expected to launch in 2023, readers are advised to wait for reports to know whether it will really arrive in 2023.
