Back in March last year, Xiaomi launched it’s first-ever foldable smartphone known as the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold which had garnered much fanfare due to it’s impressive hardware and affordable pricing. After more than a year, the company is now back to the limelight with the launch of the new Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 foldable that comes with a whole new design as well as a largely upgraded hardware including the adoption of a new Leica-branded camera system just like the recently announced Xiaomi 12S Ultra.
According to Xiaomi, the new Mix Fold 2 is touted as the slimmest foldable smartphone till date, measuring just 5.4mm when unfolded and 11.2mm in folded state. Additionally, the Mix Fold 2 is also much lighter than last year’s model weighing just 262 grams as opposed to 332 grams on the Mi Mix Fold (Ceramic version).
Just like the Mi Mix Fold, the new Mix Fold 2 also features an inward-folding design which basically means there will be two separate display – an external display as well as an inner display. The external display is an AMOLED display measuring 6.56” diagonally with FHD+ screen resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Most importantly, it also sports a more manageable 21:9 tall aspect ratio for an improved typing experience.
When unfolded, the inner display extends to 8” which allows users to enjoy a tablet-like experience. The inner display builds around an advanced LTPO2 OLED panel which offers a sharp 1914 x 2160 pixels screen resolution along with an adaptive refresh rate which automatically toggles between 1Hz to 120Hz based on the onscreen contents. Other than that, it also supports other high-end features such as HDR10+, Dolby Vision, as well as an impressive peak brightness of up to 1,300 nits.
On the rear side, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 greets us with a groundbreaking triple camera system co-developed with German optics specialist Leica. These cameras include a 50 megapixels (Sony IMX766) main camera with OIS stabilization, 13 megapixels ultra-wide camera, as well as an 8 megapixels telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom.
Under the hood, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 is powered by the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset which will be paired up to 12GB RAM and 1TB storage in the memory department. The device draws power from a respectable 4,500mAh battery that carries support for 67W fast wired charging.
For those who’re interested, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 is available in two different colorways such as Black and Gold. Pricing for the device starts from 8,999 Yuan ($1,340) for the 12GB+256GB base model and goes up to 11,999 Yuan ($1,780) for the top-of-the-line model featuring 12GB RAM and 1TB onboard storage.
