OnePlus 16 to feature Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro

There have been reports that the upcoming Snapdragon 8-series chip will arrive in two variants, namely the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. These chips are said to carry the model numbers SM8950 and SM8975. Rumors have suggested that while most flagship phones will feature the standard version, the Pro edition may power only top-of-the-line Ultra-branded flagships. However, a new leak reveals that the Pro chip will also power the OnePlus 16.

According to well-known tipster Digital Chat Station, the OnePlus 16 will be one of the early adopters of the 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. This chip will support next-generation LPDDR6 RAM, which will most likely be unavailable on the standard version.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro + LPDDR6 combination is expected to deliver top-tier performance on the OnePlus 16. However, it also suggests that a price increase for the device could be inevitable. A recent Weibo post by the same source suggested that the 12GB + 256GB variant of the OP16 could cost around 5,000 yuan ($725).

The leak also states that the OnePlus 16 will feature a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera. This would be a major upgrade considering that the OnePlus 15 received criticism for offering relatively weaker cameras compared to the OnePlus 13.

Rumors suggest that the 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera could be powered by the Samsung ISOCELL HP5 sensor. There is also a possibility that it may be accompanied by a 50-megapixel main camera and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens.

In terms of other specifications, the OnePlus 16 may feature a 1.5K OLED display with a 200Hz or 240Hz refresh rate. For selfies, it may include a 32-megapixel front camera and pack a 9,000mAh battery. Other rumored features include an ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint sensor and Android 17 with OxygenOS 17 on top.
