OnePlus will be soon starting the Android 8.0 Oreo beta program for the OnePlus 5. However, a user has received an early access for the Android 8.0 Oreo Beta 2 update for OnePlus 5.
The leaked screenshots show that the OnePlus 5 will be getting the Face Unlock feature with the beta 2 version of Android Oreo. OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei had recently declared on during a recent Ask Me Anything session on OnePlus forums that the OnePlus 5T’s front-facing camera is optimized for facial recognition feature called Face Unlock. .
During the same AMA session, OnePlus Product Manger Louis S claimed that the OnePlus 5 will not benefit from the Face Unlock feature since it features a fingerprint scanner that delivers a great user experience.
The OnePlus 5T that is running on Android 7.1.1 Nougat comes preloaded with the Face Unlock feature. The information shared by the company during the AMA session suggests that the Chinese firm wants to make the feature exclusively available on the OP5T phone.
Hence, there is a possibility that the Face Unlock feature may be only available in the beta version and may not arrive in the stable ROM. The stable version of Android 8.0 Oreo update is expected to arrive for OnePlus 5 by the end of this year or in January 2018. It remains to be seen whether the OP5 will receive the Face Unlock feature.
