It has been more than a year since OnePlus forayed into the flagship tablet segment. The OnePlus Pad was launched in February of last year. Earlier reports suggested a delayed launch for its successor, the OnePlus Pad 2. A new leak has now revealed the chipset that will power OnePlus’ second tablet.
As per the popular tipster Max Jambor, the OnePlus Pad 2 will have Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 at the helm. It is a noticeable change from the original OnePlus Pad, which was powered by the Dimensity 9000 chip. It is not clear why OnePlus went with the Qualcomm chip when it could have used MediaTek chipsets like the Dimensity 9200 or the Dimensity 9300.
Fortunately, this time around, the company is going with the most recent flagship processor available for the OnePlus Pad 2. The tablet will launch in the second half of 2024, as Jambor previously revealed.
The OnePlus Pad was a rebranded version of the Oppo Pad 2. Going by this, the OnePlus Pad 2 could be a rebadged version of the Oppo Pad 3, which is also set to launch around the same time as the OnePlus Pad 2. However, it will be exclusive to the Chinese market.
Reports indicate that confusion about the chipset delayed the launch of the Oppo Pad 3. Subsequently, it emerged that Oppo selected the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 over the Dimensity 9300 due to its superior performance.
