Oppo and Vivo are gearing up for their next-generation foldable phones in China. A new leak, courtesy of tipster Smart Pikachu, reveals the chipset and launch timeline of the Find N5 and Vivo X Fold 4 foldable phones.
Oppo Find N5, Vivo X Fold 5 chipset, launch timeline (rumored)
According to the tipster, both Vivo and Oppo are planning to launch their new foldable phones in China during the first quarter of 2025. There’s no word about the global launch timeframe of these devices. As per reports, the Find N5 may get rebranded as the OnePlus Open 2 in some markets outside of China.
The leak also indicates that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset will power the Find N5 and X Fold 4. By this, these devices are expected to launch as the first foldable phones powered by the next-generation chipset. These devices will retain the circular camera module design seen in the previous models, the Find N3 and Vivo X Fold 3.
The Oppo Find N5 rumors have revealed that it will support 2K+ resolution on both internal and external displays. The device is likely to pack a larger 6,000mAh silicon-carbon battery and maintain a slim profile of around 9.xmm+ in the folded state. For photography, it is expected to house a 50-megapixel triple camera setup on the back. Its other rumored features include an alert slider and a waterproof design.
In April 2024, Vivo launched the X Fold 3 and X Fold 3 Pro foldable phones. These devices are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and 8 Gen 3 chipsets, respectively. While the standard model, which remained exclusive to the Chinese market, offers a more affordable option, the Pro edition, a premium variant, was released globally.
It remains uncertain if Vivo will release the X Fold 4 series with two models, such as the X Fold 4 and X Fold 4 Pro. Despite the mention of the device’s name in the leak, it’s still unknown if the upcoming model will be named Vivo X Fold 4 or X Fold 5, considering Chinese brands often skip the number “4” as it is considered a bad omen.
