Through Weibo, the microblogging platform of China, Corning Gorilla Glass has confirmed that the forthcoming flagship product from Oppo will be the world’s first smartphone featuring the Gorilla Glass 6 toughened display that was introduced in the previous month. Oppo that shares a good relationship with Corning Gorilla Glass has shared the same Weibo post through its Weibo account. It is speculated that the upcoming Oppo R17 could be the world’s first smartphone to feature Gorilla Glass 6.
Both Oppo and Corning have claimed that the next Oppo flagship phone will feature Gorilla Glass 6. The Chinese manufacturer has recently launched the OPPO Find X flagship phone. Hence, it is unlikely that the company will be introducing so soon. The next high-end smartphone from Oppo is R17. Hence, it is being speculated that the R17 could be the first phone to arrive Gorilla Glass 6.
Oppo Vietnam has confirmed that it will be launching the Oppo F9 smartphone on Aug. 15. It will be featuring a valley design notched display. The Chinese manufacturer rumored to be working on Oppo R17 smartphone with the same display design. Nothing much is known about the smartphone. However, some rumors have claimed that it could be equipped with Snapdragon 710 SoC. A leaked render of the smartphone suggests that it could be equipped with in-screen fingerprint scanner.
The Gorilla Glass 6 is two times stronger than the Gorilla Glass 5 that was used on the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone. While testing, the new toughened glass from Corning could break after 15 drops from a height of 1 meter.
