Hong Kong analytical research firm Counterpoint has revealed that the Oppo R9 is the best-selling smartphone in the Chinese market last year, edging over the iPhone 6S and effectively toppled iPhone’s No. 1 spot for the first time in 5 years since 2012.
According to the research firm, around 12 million iPhone 6S were sold in 2016 as compared to 17 million Oppo R9 sold in the same year which garnered approximately 4% of the market share in contrary to iPhone 6S which only captured a mere 2% of the market share. Owing to the success of the Oppo R9, Oppo has also become one of the fastest growing smartphone manufacturer in China, and is also one of the closest competitor to other Chinese smartphone giant including Huawei and Xiaomi.
The iPhone 6S which sales figure was below what was expected last year, had placed Apple in an increasing vulnerable position in the world second-largest market and will have to pin their hope on their upcoming iPhone 7 which we hope could be a game changing flagship for the Cupertino-based company.

4 out of Top 10 phones are from BBK group (7 out of Top 20). They dominate sales in China. Bigger than Apple globally!
