OPPO Reno15 Pro Max Review: Style, Power, and a New “Max” Standard

Over the years, I’ve had the chance to test out a quite a number of Reno series devices, and each generation has brought small but meaningful improvements. But the OPPO Reno15 Pro Max feels different — and for good reason. Not only is this the most refined Reno device I’ve experienced, it’s also the first “Max” model in the series, marking a new chapter for the lineup. From the moment I started using it, I could tell OPPO wasn’t just tweaking the formula — it was raising the bar entirely.

After spending proper time with the device, I can confidently say this is the best Reno smartphone I’ve used so far. It strikes a fine balance between style and substance, delivering a level of polish that makes daily use genuinely enjoyable. The Reno series has always been known for sleek design and strong imaging, but the Reno15 Pro Max feels more ambitious, more complete, and ultimately more confident than anything that came before it.

OPPO Reno15 Pro Max: Design

At first glance, the OPPO Reno15 Pro Max looks familiar — it retains the square-shaped camera island introduced with the Reno14 Pro (Review) — but the refinements are in the details. It’s not a dramatic redesign, but rather a confident evolution that feels more thoughtfully crafted in hand.

The biggest visual refresh comes in the form of its new colour options. The Aura Gold unit I have for review is particularly striking, finished in a soft matte texture that feels warm and subtly luminous under different lighting. It doesn’t shout for attention, yet it has this quiet glow that makes it feel special. It’s the kind of finish that looks elegant in photos but even better in person.

Flip the device over and you’ll notice the back is crafted from a one-piece sculpted glass panel, which gives the phone a beautifully seamless flow across its curves. The transitions feel smooth and cohesive, without harsh edges breaking the silhouette. Complementing that is an aerospace-grade aluminium frame, which adds a reassuring sturdiness while keeping the overall feel sleek and premium.

As much as the Reno15 Pro Max impresses with its refined build, the experience really comes alive the moment the display lights up. The front is dominated by a gorgeous 6.78-inch OLED display with an FHD+ resolution, and it immediately stands out for how vibrant and sharp everything looks. From scrolling through social media to watching videos, the screen feels immersive without being overly saturated.

What I particularly enjoy is the 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, which makes everyday interactions feel incredibly fluid. Whether I’m casually browsing through apps, reading articles, or navigating the interface, the smoothness adds a layer of polish to the overall experience that you quickly grow accustomed to.

Brightness is another strong point here. With up to 1,800 nits of peak brightness, the display remains easily readable even under bright outdoor conditions. During my time using the phone outdoors, I rarely found myself struggling to see the screen clearly — something that definitely makes a difference in daily use.

On top of that, support for HDR10+ ensures that compatible content looks richer with better contrast and more dynamic colours. Watching videos on this panel genuinely feels enjoyable, with highlights appearing punchy while darker scenes retain good detail.

OPPO Reno15 Pro Max: Performance

Beyond the stunning display, the OPPO Reno15 Pro Max also brings plenty of muscle under the hood to keep everything running effortlessly. It’s powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8450, and in daily use the phone feels consistently fast and responsive. Whether I’m jumping between apps, editing photos, or simply browsing through social media, it maintains a level of smoothness that makes the whole experience feel reassuringly flagship-like.

For those who enjoy gaming, OPPO has also packed in its AI HyperBoost technology. This feature uses adaptive frame stabilisation and thermal control algorithms to keep gameplay smooth while preventing the device from heating up too quickly. In practice, this means longer gaming sessions without noticeable frame drops, which certainly elevates the overall gaming experience.

The phone I tested comes with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, giving it plenty of headroom for multitasking and storing just about everything without worrying about running out of space anytime soon.

Battery life is another highlight. The generous 6,500mAh battery easily powers through a full day of heavy use, and often more with moderate usage. When it’s time to recharge, 80W SUPERVOOC wired charging gets the phone back up quickly, while 50W AIRVOOC wireless charging offers a convenient wire-free option.

OPPO Reno15 Pro Max: Cameras

Once again, the OPPO Reno15 Pro Max continues to show why the Reno series has built such a strong reputation for imaging. While it may not carry the same ultra-premium hardware found in its Find X siblings, the camera system here is still impressively capable and very much lives up to what I’ve come to expect from OPPO.

At the heart of the setup is a 200MP main camera with OIS, and it delivers photos that are rich in detail with pleasing colours. Whether I’m shooting in bright daylight or under softer evening lighting, the results consistently look balanced and natural without feeling overly processed. It’s the kind of camera you can rely on to capture everyday moments without needing to think too much about the settings.

The 50MP telephoto camera on the other hand adds a lot of versatility. With 3.5x optical zoom, it’s great for bringing distant subjects closer without losing clarity, and the phone can push all the way up to 100x digital zoom when you really want to reach further. While that extreme zoom is more for experimentation, the lower zoom levels remain genuinely useful for travel, architecture, or candid shots from afar.

Rounding out the setup is the 50MP ultra-wide camera with a 116-degree field of view, which is perfect for landscapes, large buildings, or group photos. I particularly enjoy using it when trying to capture the full scale of a scene, as it manages to fit more into the frame while maintaining good colour consistency with the main camera.

Verdict

All in all, the OPPO Reno15 Pro Max genuinely feels like a turning point for the Reno lineup. The introduction of a “Max” model isn’t just a marketing label — the phone actually lives up to it. From its refined design and vibrant display to its dependable performance and versatile camera system, everything about the device feels thoughtfully put together and confidently executed.

What impressed me most is how complete the overall experience feels. It carries the polish and reliability you’d expect from a higher-tier device while still staying firmly within the mid-range space. The large battery keeps up easily with a full day of use, the performance remains smooth and responsive, and the cameras consistently deliver photos that you’d be happy to share.

At S$999 in Singapore, the Reno15 Pro Max makes a strong case for itself as one of the best mid-range smartphones available today. It proves that you don’t always need to stretch to flagship territory to get a well-rounded, enjoyable smartphone experience — and for me, it’s easily the most impressive Reno device I’ve used so far.
