Realme has officially announced the all new Realme 8 series smartphones during an online launch event earlier today. As expected, two different models including the Realme 8 and Realme 8 Pro were unveiled during today’s launch event.
Realme 8 Pro
The Realme 8 Pro, as its name suggests, will be the highest-end model between the two. It comes with a 6.4” Super AMOLED display which offers an immersive FHD+ screen resolution, 180Hz touch sampling rate, as well as an impressive 1,000 nits peak brightness.
Around the back, there’s a squarish camera island that houses a quad-camera setup lead by a 108 megapixels Samsung ISOCELL HM2 primary shooter. What’s interesting is that the sensor itself is actually capable of delivering 3x in-sensor zoom which is said to be comparable to those taken with 3x optical zoom.
The other three cameras include an 8 megapixels ultra-wide camera, 2 megapixels macro camera, as well as a 2 megapixels B&W sensor. Its camera department will be rounded out by a 16 megapixels front-facing camera for selfie and video-calling purposes.
Under the hood, the Realme 8 Pro retains the same Snapdragon 720G chipset which was also used in last year’s Realme 7 Pro (Review). This will be assisted by up to 8GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage that can be further expanded via a microSD card.
The device is backed by a 4,500mAh battery which carries support for 50W SuperDart fast-charging. Despite that, its actually shipped with a 65W charger. According to Realme, the device is able to achieve a full charge within a mere 47 minutes with the accompanying charger.
On the aoftware-side, the Realme 8 series smartphones are among the first to come with the latest Realme UI 2.0 (based on Android 11). Other than that, the device also features an in-display fingerprint scanner, 3.5mm headphone jack and Hi-Res audio support.
In the Indian market, the Realme 8 Pro is priced at INR17,999 (US$248) and INR19,999 (US$276) for its 6GB+128GB and 8GB+128GB variants respectively.
Realme 8
Coming to the Realme 8, the device shares the same 6.4” Super AMOLED display as the Realme 8 Pro. As such, it retains all the key features including the FHD+ screen resolution, 180Hz touch sampling, 1,000 nits peak brightness, as well as in-display fingerprint scanner.
Over on at the back, it also sports a quad-camera setup but swaps the 108 megapixels shooter on the Realme 8 Pro with a toned-down 64 megapixels sensor instead. Other than that, the other three cameras remain unchanged. In fact, their similarities extend to the 16 megapixels selfie camera as well.
Moving on, the Realme 8 is also powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio G95 chipset which is coupled with up to 8GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage. Once again, storage capacity can be further expanded if its insufficient for your usage.
Although the Realme 8 is equipped with a slightly larger 5,000mAh battery, but it ditches the 50W SuperDart charging for a slower 30W Dart charging instead. Nonetheless, a full charge can still be achieved within 65 minutes which is still pretty reasonable. .
In terms of pricing, the Realme 8 is priced at INR14,999 (US$207), INR15,999 (US$220) and INR16,999 (US$234) respectively for its 4GB+128GB, 6GB+128GB and 8GB+128GB variants.
