Realme had reportedly planned to launch a foldable phone in 2022. However, for reasons best known to the company, its launch has been postponed until this year. Samsung, Huawei, Motorola, Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo, and Tecno are some of the mainstream smartphone brands that have launched foldable phones. OnePlus will enter the foldable market in the third quarter of this year. It now appears that Realme will also unveil its first-ever foldable phone this year.
Realme CEO Madhav Sheth hinted at the release of a foldable smartphone by asking users which one they would like to see first, the Realme Fold or the Realme Flip. Among the above-mentioned brands, Samsung is the only one that offers its foldable phones in more markets. Most of the other brands have been actively launching foldable phones in the Chinese market.
There are two kinds of foldable phones available on the market. The first is is horizontal folding design, which allows users to open the device like a book to access its large foldable screen. This allows users to take advantage of a tablet-like experience.
The next one is a flip, or the so-called clamshell design, which allows users to open the device vertically to use its foldable screen. It is unclear whether Realme’s upcoming foldable phone will be a fold or a flip device.
At present, there is no word on the specifications of the Realme Flip / Fold. In all likelihood, Realme’s first foldable phone may debut in the second half of 2022.
