The wait is over! Xiaomi has finally announced the highly anticipated Redmi K40 flagship series during an official launch event, revealing every single bit of details we’re dying to find out.
This time round, a total of three devices had been announced including the vanilla Redmi K40, Redmi K40 Pro, as well as the Redmi K40 Pro+ which had made an surprise appearance.
Redmi K40 Pro+
Among the trio of smartphones announced, the Redmi K40 Pro+ is the highest-end model which brings in the most advanced chipset and camera system.
Starting with the front, the Redmi K40 Pro+ shares the same display technology with both the K40 and K40 Pro. It features a 6.67-inches Samsung E4 AMOLED display which boasts a FHD+ screen resolution, and carries support for DCI-P3 color space and HDR10+.
On top of that, the front display also sports an ultra-smooth 120Hz refresh rate along with an impressive 360Hz touch sampling rate which is great for mobile gaming. Most importantly, it scores an A+ rating from DisplayMate as well.
Under the hood, the Redmi K40 Pro+ is powered by the flagship Snapdragon 888 chipset which will be paired with 12GB RAM and 256GB onboard storage. Just like K30 series devices, there isn’t any microSD slot on the new K40 smartphones for memory expansion.
In the camera department, the Redmi K40 Pro+ brings along a 108 megapixels Samsung ISOCELL HM2 primary shooter assisted by an 8 megapixels ultra-wide camera with 119-degrees FoV as well as a 5 megapixels telephoto camera.
This will be accompanied by a 20 megapixels camera upfront for selfie and video-calling purposes. In terms of video recording, the device can record 8K video at 30fps, as well as 4K video at both 30fps and 60fps.
Moving on, the K40 Pro+ also shares the same 4,520mAh battery (with 33W fast-charging) as the K40 and K40 Pro. According to Xiaomi, a full charge from 0 to 100% will take a mere 52 minutes thanks to their optimized charging solution.
Other than that, their similarities also extend to the presence of Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio certified stereo speakers, X-axis linear motor, NFC support, IR Blaster, side-mounted fingerprint scanner, as well as IP53 rating.
In the Chinese market, the Redmi K40 Pro+ will set you back with a price of 3,699 Yuan (US$573) for its sole 12GB+256GB variant.
Redmi K40 Pro
Coming to the Redmi K40 Pro, the device share largely the same specs as the K40 Pro+, except for the difference in their main camera.
Although the higher-end K40 Pro+ gets the better 108 megapixels sensor, the K40 Pro settles for a 64 megapixels sensor instead. As for the other two cameras, they are the same 8 megapixels ultra-wide and 5 megapixels telephoto cameras.
Pricing-wise, it will be priced at 2,799 Yuan (US$434), 2,999 Yuan (US$465) and 3,299 Yuan (US$511) respectively for its 6GB+128GB, 8GB+128GB, as well as 8GB+256GB variants.
Redmi K40
Last but not the least, we have the Redmi K40 which is slightly different from the K40 Pro and K40 Pro+ in terms of its underlying chipset and camera. Unlike its higher-end siblings, the vanilla K40 is powered by the Snapdragon 870 chipset instead of the Snapdragon 888 chip.
Moreover, its triple-camera setup is lead by a toned-down 48 megapixels primary shooter, while the other two cameras remain unchanged. This means you will still find the same 8 megapixels ultra-wide and 5 megapixels telephoto units on the Redmi K40.
Aside from the aforementioned differences, the rest of the specs are similar to the K40 Pro and K40 Pro+. It will be available in a total of four different memory configurations including 6GB+128GB, 8GB+128GB, 8GB+256GB, as well as 12GB+256GB.
