Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing took to Weibo to reveal that the company wants to produce a compact smartphone. These days most of the mid-range phones are equipped with over 6-inch displays. Hence, it appears that the company could be working on a phone with a display that is smaller than 6 inches.
Weibing claims that the small-sized phone will have a smaller battery. Hence, customers who will be interested in purchasing a smaller Redmi phone will have to compromise on its battery capacity a lot. There is no word on the name and specifications of the compact-sized Redmi phone. Probably, it could be a new series named as Redmi Mini. If it arrives, it could be a worthy rival for the iPhone 12 Mini that debuted recently.
The iPhone 12 Mini measures 131.5 x 64.2 x 7.4mm and it weighs only 135 grams. The device houses a 5.4-inch OLED display, a 12-meagpixel + 12-megapixel dual camera system, a 12-megapixel selfie camera, and a 2,277mAh battery.
Redmi is currently working on multiple smartphones. It is expected to announce the Redmi K30S smartphone on Oct. 27 in China. It is known through its TENAA listing that it will be arriving as a rebadged version of Xiaomi Mi 10T that went official in global markets last month. The Redmi K30S moniker is yet to be confirmed by the brand.
Redmi fans are also waiting for the arrival of the Redmi Note 10 series. Probably, the series may go official in November.
