Yesterday, a South Korean publication revealed that Samsung will be holding a launch event on Aug. 5 to announce new devices such as Galaxy Note 20 series, Galaxy Fold 2, Galaxy Z Flip, and Galaxy Watch 3 devices. The Galaxy Fold 2 foldable smartphone was previously rumored to arrive with S Pen stylus. However, a new report reveals that the Fold 2 won’t be coming with an S Pen.
According to the report, the Galaxy Fold 2 will not include S Pen support because of the durability problems associated with its displays. The Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) that will be shielding the inner display is not thick enough and is likely to attract scratches. Hence, it may not be feasible for the company to provide a built-in S Pen stylus along with the Fold 2.
The thickness of the Corning Gorilla Glass 6 and the display is around 0.4mm to 1.2mm. In comparison, the thickness of UTG for Galaxy Z Flip is only 0.3mm. It is likely that the South Korean company will use the same UTG on the Galaxy Fold 2.
The Galaxy Fold that debuted last year along with Galaxy Note 10 series came with 60Hz refresh rate support for its inner flexible display. Rumors have it that the Galaxy Fold 2 could be coming with a larger flexible display of around 7.7 inches that will offer up to 120Hz refresh rate.
The Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 is expected to come with a base storage of 256 GB. Last year’s model was made available with 512 GB storage. This indicates that the Fold 2 could be available with a cheaper pricing.
