According to a new report from South Korea, Samsung has reportedly decided to cancel the Galaxy S26 Edge smartphone. The news, first revealed by NewsPim, cites company insiders who claim that the decision was made after evaluating the performance of the Galaxy S25 Edge in global markets. The development suggests Samsung is shifting its flagship lineup strategy, possibly returning to its long-standing three-model approach that was in place before the Edge series made its debut.
Samsung drops Galaxy S26 Edge development

The Galaxy S26 Edge was initially part of Samsung’s four-model plan for the upcoming S26 lineup, which included the base, Plus, Edge, and Ultra variants. However, following weaker-than-expected sales of the Galaxy S25 Edge, the company has decided to discontinue the Edge line altogether. The upcoming Galaxy S26 Plus will reportedly replace the cancelled Edge model in the 2026 flagship family.
According to the data cited in the report, as of August 2025, the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra achieved worldwide shipments of 8.28 million, 5.05 million, and 12.18 million units, respectively. In stark contrast, the Galaxy S25 Edge managed to sell only 1.31 million units, prompting Samsung to halt production once current stock is exhausted. The disappointing figures highlight that the Edge variant struggled to appeal to consumers compared to its siblings.
Galaxy S26 Plus model unlikely to be cancelled
Interestingly, Samsung had originally considered discontinuing the Plus model earlier this year, positioning the Edge version as its replacement. However, that plan has now been reversed. Industry sources reveal that Samsung has restarted development on the Galaxy S26 Plus. The company now plans to launch three flagship models, namely the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26 Plus, and Galaxy S26 Ultra, during its expected January 2026 unveiling.
Reports further indicate that the standard Galaxy S26 could feature Samsung’s in-house 2nm Exynos 2600 chipset, while the S26 Ultra is likely to use a high-frequency version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. Details about the Galaxy S26 Plus chipset remain under wraps for now.
