Initial rumors Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ had suggested that since the company had begun with the production of these phones early, they will be launching at the start of 2018. However, recent leaks have claimed that the company will be using the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 stage that will be held in coming February to announce the Galaxy S9 and S9+.
According to a South Korean publication, after the launch of Apple iPhone X in November, Samsung wanted to release the Galaxy S9 and S9 by January 2019 to rival with the iPhone X. However, since the sales of Galaxy S8 and S8+ were not affected by the arrival of the iPhone X, Samsung reportedly decided to slow down and launch the Galaxy S9 and S9+ at MWC platform.
Except for this year, Samsung has been using the MWC platform to announce Galaxy S7, Galaxy S6, and Galaxy S5 smartphones. Because of the Galaxy Note 7 debacle, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 was launched a bit late this year through a dedicated launch event. The publication is of the view that Samsung may hold the Galaxy Unpacked 2018 event on Feb. 27 to announce the next generation Galaxy S series phones.
