Though the main highlight of today’s Galaxy Unpacked event is probably on the company’s next-generation’s foldable phones, but it’s definitely worth taking some time off to check out the company’s brand new Galaxy Watch4 series as well.
Just like what earlier reports had suggested, Samsung announced a total of two models from it’s new Galaxy Watch4 series lineup including the likes of the Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch4 Classic.
These devices are the first Samsung smartwatches which are shipped with the latest One UI Watch based upon the new Wear OS that’s jointly developed by Samsung and Google.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch4, offered in both 40mm and 44mm, features a modern and minimalist aesthetic which goes along with an aluminum watch case and rubber strap.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch4 Classic, available in 42mm and 46mm, on the other end features a stylish rotating bezel around it’s stainless steel watch case which is rounded out by the same rubber strap.
Regardless of it’s model, the Watch4 series devices share an identical Super AMOLED display panel which offers the same 330ppi pixel density. Likewise, all models are also furnished with Gorilla Glass atop for extra durability.
Among the highlights of the new Galaxy Watch4 series include Samsung’s BioActive Sensor, a 3-in-1 sensor that makes use of ”a single chip to precisely run three powerful health sensors — Optical Heart Rate, Electrical Heart and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis”.
This array of sensors, according to Samsung, allows users to monitor their blood pressure, detect an AFib irregular heartbeat, measure their blood oxygen level, as well as calculate their body composition.
In fact, the Body Composition measurement tool is a totally new feature that serves to offer user a ”deeper understanding of their general health and fitness, with key measurements like skeletal muscle, basal metabolic rate, body water and body fat percentage”, according to Samsung.
On the software-side, Samsung’s latest One UI Mobile and Wear OS aims to deliver an ultimate mobile experience through it’s simplicity, ease and efficiency.
For instance, there are some really neat features like Auto Switch which ensures your earbuds can toggle audio between your phone and watch according to usage. Other than that, there’s also intuitive gesture controls that allow you to easily pick up or reject calls, or even to dismiss notifications or alarms.
Sitting at the heart of the watch is the new Exynos W920 dual-core processor that offers 20% faster CPU and 50% more RAM, and a GPU that’s 10 times faster than the previous generation. This will be supplemented by a 361mAh battery for the 44mm/ 46mm models, or 271mAh for the 40mm/ 42mm models.
The new Galaxy Watch4 series will be available in Singapore starting September 10th through Samsung Online Store, Samsung Experience Stores, Samsung Official Store in Lazada and Shopee and major consumer electronics & IT stores. Those who’re interested can refer to it’s official local pricing above.
