Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 cover display widgets leaked ahead of launch

Cover display widgets are a part of most clamshell folding smartphones. This is because they come with cover screens that can display some information to the user. For the coming Z Flip 5, this cover display packs some potential, and netizens are already getting a glimpse of its widgets thanks to a leak by tipster Roland Quandt.

Why does this device’s cover display potential, and why is it a big deal to fans? This is because the coming clamshell folding device from Samsung will feature the largest cover display yet from the brand. The display in question will be slightly smaller than the massive 3.6-inch display on the new Motorola Razr 40 Ultra, which is currently making a buzz across the internet.

Having a large cover display means that it’d be more useful to buyers of the device. Therefore, the widgets need to see some changes which will pack more functions and details. While fans wait for the coming Unpacked event, they can get some information about the widgets this clamshell folding device will launch with.

Galaxy Z Flip 5 cover display: What to expect?

From the leaked images of the Galaxy Z Flip 5, it’s clear that the cover display won’t be a full square or rectangle. It won’t also be a full circle, as is the case with other clamshell folding devices. Samsung is throwing on a weirdly shaped cover display, which covers the top folding part of the rear panel. However, the display leaves space for the camera cut-out and extends the length of the area beside the camera cut-out.

This means that conventional widgets (shaped like squares, rectangles, or circles) might leave the extra space untouched. Well, the images leaked by Quandt show that Samsung worked on filling up the extra space. A total of six widgets are shown beside the Z Flip 5 in the leaked image.

From the images, it is clear that the extra space is well covered, hence displaying necessary shortcuts or information well. But most of the widgets shown are for onboard Samsung apps, like the call history, weather, battery, and messages widgets. Many fans might wonder how third-party apps would optimize their services to fit into the Z Flip 5’s weirdly shaped cover display.

Well, fans might get some relief knowing that core Google apps and widgets might fit perfectly on that screen. Another important detail concerning this device is that it might close flat without a hinge gap. This will be great news for most Samsung fans out there, tired of seeing a gap whenever they fold their device.
