Fresh information shared by a South Korean publication has revealed that Samsung would be relying less on Qualcomm chipset for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ flagships from next year. The South Korean company is usually known for using Snapdragon chipset for half the units of the Galaxy S smartphones and for the remaining half, it makes use of its Exynos chipset. However, since Qualcomm has chosen TSMC to manufacture its chipsets, Samsung has reportedly decided to rely less on Snapdragon chipsets.
The Snapdragon 820 and 821 chipsets that are respectively power the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy Note Fan Edition are built on 14nm manufacturing process by Samsung. The Snapdragon 835 chipset that powers the Galaxy S8 duo is built on 10nm manufacturing process by Samsung. However, recent reports have revealed that TSMC had bagged the contract for its 7nm chip manufacturing technology. Since Qualcomm signed up with TSMC for manufacturing the next-generation Snapdragon 845 chipset, Samsung has decided to put pressure on Qualcomm for the forthcoming deals.
The report suggests that the upcoming Exynos 9810 chipset could be powering the Galaxy S9. According to a Chinese leakster Samsung will still manage to get the initial stock of the Galaxy S9. In the previous month, the alleged Galaxy S9 was spotted with Snapdragon 845 chipset.
