Save the date: Qualcomm is launching a new Snapdragon chip on April 2

Qualcomm has officially announced that it will hold a launch event on April 2 to unveil a new flagship product. Last year, the US-based chip manufacturer unveiled the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip in March. Therefore, it is likely that the brand may unveil the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 through the upcoming launch event. Given the fact, the recent Snapdragon 8-series chip was dubbed the Snapdragon 8 Elite. It is likely that the forthcoming chip may carry the Snapdragon 8s Elite moniker. Here’s a look at the chipset’s rumored specifications and the names of the devices that may feature it.

According to reports, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 / 8s Elite is expected to be manufactured on TSMC’s 4nm process and will feature an all-big-core CPU configuration. Unlike the premium Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which is set to introduce Qualcomm’s custom Oryon cores, the 8s Gen 4 will stick to standard ARM Cortex cores.

The CPU layout may consist of a 1+3+2+2 configuration, with a primary Cortex-X4 core clocked at 3.21GHz, three Cortex-A720 cores at 3.01GHz, two additional Cortex-A720 cores at 2.80GHz, and two more power-efficient Cortex-A720 cores running at 2.02GHz.

In terms of graphics, the chipset will include the Adreno 825 GPU, which belongs to the same generation as the Adreno 830 found in the Snapdragon 8 Elite. However, the Adreno 825 is expected to have a slightly lower core count, making it a step below the flagship-tier GPUs. The processor will also feature a combination of 6MB system-level cache (SLC) and 8MB L3 cache, which should contribute to improved multitasking efficiency. Early benchmark leaks indicate that the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 achieves an AnTuTu score exceeding 2 million, positioning its performance between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Several manufacturers are reportedly planning to launch devices powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 in April in China. Among the first to feature this chipset are expected to be the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro, iQOO Z10 Turbo Pro, Xiaomi Civi 5 Pro, and Oppo K13 Pro. The global market is expected to receive the Poco F7 and Xiaomi 15 Civi as rebranded versions of the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro and Xiaomi 15 Civi.
