In 2020, Microsoft launched the first generation of the Surface Duo, a dual-display phone running Android. It was succeeded by Surface Duo 2 in 2021. Hence, the brand was expected to unveil the Surface Duo 3 in 2023, but it did not happen. A new report has revealed that it will not be a dual-display phone, but instead feature a foldable screen.
According to the report, the Surface Duo 3 could be Microsoft’s first phone with a foldable screen. At the moment, it is unclear whether the device will be ready for launch this year.
There is a possibility that the company will give up the “Duo” branding for the device. It remains to be seen whether the device will be named the Surface Fold or something else. The foldable display phone is expected to sport an inwardly folding design like the Galaxy Z Fold series from Samsung. It is also expected to feature a 180-degree hinge underneath the foldable screen and a cover display on the outside.
At present, there is no information on the specifications of the Surface foldable phone. The company is said to be putting a lot of emphasis on the software of the device to make sure that it offers a different experience as compared to foldable phones from other brands. It is expected to offer a seamless experience between Android and Windows 11 PCs.
In addition, the report states that Microsoft may expand its Android smartphone lineup. Hence, it is also expected to release regular smartphones. This also suggests that the company may not have given up on the rumored Surface Phone.
