Last week, ASUS had already began teasing on the company’s upcoming ROG gaming flagship which is expected to be launched during the first-quarter of the year even though the current ASUS ROG Phone 3 (Review) is barely six-month-old.
Based on ASUS naming convention, the upcoming ROG Phone device should be marketed as the ROG Phone 4. However, since “4” is seen as an inauspicious number in some Asian countries, the upcoming ROG Phone could be marketed as the ROG Phone 5 instead.
Recently, unannounced ASUS smartphone was spotted on Geekbench bearing the model number ASUS_I005DA. This device is speculated to be the next-generation’s ROG Phone flagship as it was listed with flagship specs including the latest Snapdragon 888 chipset alongside 8GB RAM.
Now, the same device had appeared on the Chinese 3C’s database which hints on its imminent launch. On top of that, it also listed the device with 65W fast-charging support which is a considerable upgrade over the current ROG Phone 3’s 30W fast-charging.
In fact, the imminent arrival of the ROG Phone 3 doesn’t came much as a surprise given that its competitors including Black Shark, Nubia and Lenovo are also gearing up for their next gaming flagship.
