Vivo has an excellent track record in launching some of the most exciting mid-range devices in the market such as the March-unveiled Vivo V30 5G (Review) which left us deeply impressed across almost every facets of the phone. Vivo intends to carry on the trend with the new V40 5G which comes with a raft of noteworthy upgrades that makes it an even better deal than before.
Like any other Vivo smartphones, design remains the centrepiece for the new Vivo V40 5G which sports a breath-taking rear design featuring a unique Gemini Ring camera housing which instantly makes the phone recognizable from the sea of similar-looking smartphones.
The model I have for review comes in a gorgeous Sunglow Peach colorway which dons a glossy glass finish at the back for a more premium hand feel. In case you ain’t a fan of bright colour like this, there’s also a slightly more understated Stellar Silver colorway which uses AG technology for enhanced scratch and fingerprint resistance.
Despite its slim and lightweight form, the Vivo V40 5G is built to last with a Comprehensive Cushioning Structure that provides enhanced shock absorption, while the protective glass is made from high-performance Schott which increases drop resistance by a whopping 47%.

On the frontside, the V40 5G arrives with a vibrant 6.78” AMOLED display that’s capable of delivering sharp and smooth visuals thanks to an exceptional 2800 x 1260 pixels screen resolution and a slick 120Hz dynamic refresh rate. Along with a peak brightness that goes up to 2,800 nits, the V40 5G’s promises a rich and comfortable viewing experience regardless of lighting condition.
Under the hood, the Vivo V40 5G is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset which provides more than sufficient processing juice for day-to-day usage be it scrolling through social media, streaming videos or even playing mobile games. Speaking of the latter, the V40 5G is also equipped with an intelligent cooling system which significantly improves heat dissipation to ensure a stable, lag-free gaming experience.
Apart from that, the phone also features a generous 12GB RAM for smooth multi-tasking, as well as a respectable 5,500mAh battery which easily supports more than a day’s usage on a normal work day. In the event that the battery runs out, the V40 5G also supports 80W fast-charging that’s able to deliver a full charge from 0 to 100% in under an hour mark.
Moving on to the photography side of things, the Vivo V40 5G brought along a versatile dual-cam system co-engineered with German optic specialist Zeiss. These cameras include a 50 megapixels (f/1.88 aperture) main camera as well a 50 megapixels (f/2.0 aperture) ultra-wide unit with an impressive 119-degrees field of view.
Despite being essentially a mid-range model, you might be surprised that the V40 5G is actually capable of snapping professional-looking photos which are comparable to those taken by flagship devices that double its price. It never fails to capture photos with accurate colour tones and aplenty details even in dingy environment.
Even with the lack of a dedicated telephoto camera, the phone is still able to capture flattering photos at 2x or 3x digital zoom which looks as though they were taken by a telephoto unit. It also supports up to 20x digital zoom, but as usual, you can expect image quality to fall of gradually the further you zoom.
All in all, the Vivo V40 5G is a fantastic mid-ranger with plenty to love about. Although it may not be an expensive flagship phone likes its X series stablemates, but it does have the necessary hardware chops to provide users a premium smartphone experience which you don’t typically get in this price range. Hence, its an easy phone to recommend for those on a slightly tighter budget.
