Several reports have claimed Vivo will unveil the Vivo X200 Ultra in the second quarter of this year in China. A new leak that has emerged on Weibo states that the device will be unveiled by mid-April. The leak also reveals key information about the X200 Ultra.
Vivo X200 Ultra, X200S launch timeframe (rumored)
To recall, the Vivo X200 and X200 Pro equipped with the Dimensity 9400 chip were announced in October 2024. The new leak by tipster Experience More reveals that Vivo will announce the Vivo X200 Ultra and X200S by mid-April in China. This launch timing is roughly around six months after the existing X200 model.
Previous reports have revealed that the X200 Ultra will be the first in the X200 series to utilize the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. The X200S is also anticipated to feature a newer Dimensity 9400 Plus chipset, an overclocked version of the Dimensity 9400 that powers the X200 and X20) Pro. The April event might also include a new purple color variant for the Vivo X200 Pro Mini.
To recall, the Vivo X100 Ultra featured a 1-inch 50-megapixel primary camera. However, the X200 Ultra is not expected to follow the trend of using a 1-inch sensor. Instead, it may feature a smaller 1/1.28-inch 50-megapixel sensor, but with a twist. This sensor is rumored to support a 1.5x optical zoom, effectively providing a 35mm equivalent focal length.
This focus on a 35mm equivalent lens is noteworthy, as it echoes Nubia’s recent camera innovations. Nubia has been incorporating 35mm lenses in its flagship phones, like the Z50 Ultra, which uses a customized 64-megapixel Sony IMX787 sensor. While Nubia’s market share is relatively small, Vivo’s influence is substantial.
If Vivo successfully implements this 35mm main camera, it could set a new industry standard. Positive consumer feedback could encourage other manufacturers to adopt similar camera solutions, potentially revolutionizing smartphone photography.
