Vivo X300 to feature custom 200MP Samsung HPB primary camera

Rumors are rife that Vivo will announce the Vivo X300 series of flagship phones in October in China. The X300 and X300 Pro are expected to debut as the world’s first smartphones powered by the Dimensity 9500 chipset. At the recently held event for the Vivi Vision mixed reality headset launch in China, the company confirmed that it will be using a new Samsung 200-megapixel camera and a Sony LYT-828 on its upcoming X300 lineup. In all likelihood, the LYT-828 will be reserved for the X300 Pro’s primary camera. Today, Vivo Product Manager Han Boxiao released a Weibo post to confirm that the Vivo X300 will feature a custom-made 200-megapixel Samsung sensor for the primary camera.

According to Boxiao, the Vivo X300’s primary camera is equipped with a 200-megapixel Samsung HPB sensor, which is described as an upgraded version of the existing 200-megapixel Samsung HP9. The “B” in HPB stands for Blue Factory, a reference to Vivo, indicating that this sensor is a custom design made specifically for the brand.

The Samsung HPB features a 1/1.4-inch large sensor that supports both a 200-megapixel output and high-resolution 50-megapixel shots. It also offers CIPA 4.5-level optical image stabilization and includes blue glass with Zeiss T* coating to improve glare control and reduce ghosting issues. The inclusion will be a worthy upgrade comapred to the Sony IMX921 50-megapixel camera sensor, which was made available on the Vivo X200.

According to a Weibo post released by tipster Digital Chat Station, the X300 camera setup will include a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens. While he did not specify the exact camera sensor, it could be equipped with a Samsung JN1 or JN5 lens.

For zoomed shots, the X300 will feature the new Sony IMX885 periscope telephoto camera, which is said to offer 3x optical zoom and up to 70mm focal length. The tipster added that the periscope lens will use a light-folding prism structure and will also support telephoto macro photography.
