Xiaomi is expected to announce the Xiaomi 18, equipped with the next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chip, in September this year in China. It is speculated that the said month will see the arrival of three devices, such as the Xiaomi 18, 18 Pro, and 18 Pro Max, whereas the Ultra edition may debut by the end of this year. The standard Xiaomi 18 is expected to arrive with several upgrades, and a new leak courtesy of tipster Digital Chat Station has revealed that its screen size may increase slightly. Additionally, the tipster has also shared the megapixel count of its periscope telephoto camera.
Xiaomi 18 display size, camera details emerge
DCS has claimed that the Xiaomi 18 may feature a slightly larger display compared to the Xiaomi 17, which features a 6.3-inch screen. According to the leak, engineering prototypes are currently testing screen sizes around 6.3 to 6.4 inches, likely to accommodate upgraded hardware and additional components.
The tipster also suggests that the entire lineup could include a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera, indicating a strong focus on advanced imaging capabilities despite the relatively compact form factor. This means that the Xiaomi 18, 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, and 18 Ultra may all feature a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera.
A periscope telephoto camera uses a prism-based folded lens design that increases the optical path length inside the phone, enabling higher optical zoom without significantly increasing device thickness. Since the Xiaomi 17 only featured a standard telephoto camera, recent reports claim that the standard Xiaomi 18 may finally receive a periscope camera this year. However, it is surprising that the company may offer a 200-megapixel periscope camera on the Xiaomi 18.
