Xiaomi is working on a tri-foldable phone

Huawei plans to host two significant launch events in China this year. The one that is expected to be held at the end of the year is expected to see the arrival of the Mate 70 series of smartphones. Conversely, the upcoming event could potentially introduce the world’s first tri-foldable phone. A new development suggests that another leading smartphone brand is also working on a tri-foldable phone.

According to tipster Smart Pikachu, Xiaomi is planning to launch a tri-foldable phone. For those unaware, a tri-foldable phone is a type of foldable smartphone that boasts three distinct folding segments, enabling it to fold twice. Unlike traditional foldable phones, which typically fold in half, a tri-foldable phone can unfold to create a much larger display, similar to a tablet. Huawei’s upcoming tri-foldable phone is expected to provide a screen space of around 10 inches when unfolded.

When folded, a tri-foldable phone offers a more compact form factor for simple portability. The design aims to offer users a smartphone and tablet experience in a single device. Unfortunately, Xiaomi hasn’t revealed any information about the device.

Xiaomi might present its tri-foldable phone at a major event like the Mobile World Congress (MWC), scheduled for February 2025. Hopefully, the rumor mill will shed more details towards the end of this year.

In related news, Xiaomi recently launched the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset. The same event saw the arrival of the company’s first flip-style foldable display phone, named the Xiaomi Mix Flip.
