Just after OPPO revealed a prototype with in-display selfie camera, Xiaomi President and co-founder Lin Bin also revealed that the company is working on a phone with in-display selfie camera. He also shared a video of the mysterious phone on Weibo to demonstrate the new display embedded camera technology.
Compared to the demo video shown by OPPO, Xiaomi’s video showcasing the in-display selfie camera technology is clearer. In the video, a user can be seen holding two Xiaomi phones besides each other. The one on the right is the Xiaomi Mi 9 that has a waterdrop-style selfie camera notch. The handset placed on the left is a notch-less device that features a selfie camera embedded under the display at the middle portion of the upper portion. Before the video ends, the user can be seen using the front camera that is normally not visible when the phone is used.
Xiaomi has not revealed any information on the first device that will be featuring an in-display selfie camera. While the rumor mill will want to speculate it as the design for the upcoming Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 smartphone, there are chances that company may not come with the new tech. OPPO claimed that the in-display selfie camera quality is not impressive at the moment and it will take some time to improve. Xiaomi too may avoid the technology on the Mi MIX 4 if isn’t completely ready.
